FAQs

What is your educational approach?

We build on the idea that children fare better when they move more, get more sunlight, and breathe more fresh air. Our classroom can be defined as a space where Mother Nature is the classroom and children learn through unstructured outdoor play.

Can I come volunteer?

Of course you can! We are happy to include family members who want to join us to share a tradition, recipe, game or book! We are also happy to have organizations that want to share their passion or perspective. Including different ideas at Mud Club makes the experience more unique for the children. If you have something you would like to share with us please reach out so we can find a time to get you scheduled.

What are the founders backgrounds?

Samantha Sabo has a BA in Studio Art, a K-12 Art Education Certification and has attended Forest School training.

Renee Kerstetter has a BA in Psychology and is certified in Social Emotional based education.

Both Renee and Samantha are constantly researching and taking trainings on Montessori and Reggio education philosophies, social and emotional learning, and early childhood development to be able to implement the most up to date practices at Mud Club.

Do you ever go inside?

Yes. We have an inside space prepared for when the weather is unsafe or if the group is uncomfortable. We believe that if children enjoy nature they will grow up wanting to protect it, we also believe that the fresh air, sunlight and abundance of space is good for the group, which is why our goal is to be outside as much as possible. However, even one bad experience can alter how children feel about the outdoors. Each year our group of children have a different tolerance for the cold weather and we follow their lead on when to go inside. We also have the ability to split the group up if half of the group wants to stay outside and half are cold and want to go in. Making children stay outside when they are unhappy and cold does not make them love nature and in fact might do the opposite.

What is the cost of Mud Club?

The cost of Mud Club’s Playschool program is $30.00 a session, each session is 3 hours in length. We are currently working towards offering a scholarship program. We are happy to discuss options for families who can not afford the cost of our programs.

What if I’m looking for full day care?

Currently we offer a longer day on Tuesdays and Thursdays (9-3) and are working on expanding our program to accommodate longer days throughout the week. Until then, there are several afternoon programs in the Lewisburg area that we are happy to connect you with. We currently provide transportation from Mud Club to the afternoon programs for a small free. Please contact us with questions.
